Tina Tina Amanda AmandaMaureen enjoyed playing sports as a young girl and excelled in athletics. Her natural ability to perform was an ideal complement to her passion for athletics. She won almost every Feis Award for Theater and Drama that her country had to give. At age 14 she was accepted to the Abbey Theater, where her enthusiasm for classical theatre and operatic music was followed. Charles Laughton became captivated with her stunningly beautiful eyes when the screening test he attended. Laughton together with his partner Erich Pommer changed Maureen FitzSimons identity changing her name "Maureen O'Hara" and shortened her name to be used on the marquee. They then cast for her role as an actress in Jamaica Inn, (1939). Maureen FitzSimons' upcoming film (The Hunchback of Notre-Dame 1939) was planned to be made by RKO Pictures in America under a contract to Laughton. Maureen could buy her contract with Laughton after the film was a huge success. Maureen was just 19 years old at the time she was starring alongside Laughton in two films.
