The early achievements of Maureen FitzSimons in the performing arts, that are now known to be Maureen O'Hara, would certainly have qualified her to her place in the "child prodigy" category. However, for an Irish girl who was surrounded by gifted parents and extended families, these qualities were natural. Maureen arrived in this nurturing sanctuary on August 17th, 1920. Her family was her parents as well as family members. She was the daughter of Marguerita Lililburn FitzSimons a talented contralto. Charles FitzSimons managed a Dublin-based firm and also owned a stake of "The Shamrock Rovers" an eminent Irish soccer team. Maureen FitzSimons was the second child from Charles FitzSimons. Peggy FitzSimons, Florrie Fitzsimons Charles B. Fitzsimons Margot Fitzsimons completed this amazing family. Maureen was an athletic natural and was a fan of tough sporting games. Her passion was coupled with an unnatural talent for performing. She took home almost every Feis Award for Drama and Theatre Performance that her country had to offer. As she reached the age of 14 the Abbey Theater accepted her and permitted her to pursue her dream in classical theater and opera singing.
